Dr Sonia is a Clinical Psychologist with over 10 years of experience in different settings such as private practice and community mental health centres offering a full range of psychological interventions for individuals, couples and families. She graduated with a PhD in Educational Psychology from the University of Malaya in Malaysia, Master in Clinical Psychology, Degree in General Psychology, and Certificate in Training Pre-school Trainers from Iran. She has work experience in clinical settings and Academia in positions such as Clinical Psychologist, Lecturer, Researcher, and Head of Psychology Department in Malaysia and Iran. Involving in different positions helped her to expand her expertise and keep her knowledge up-to-date. Dr Sonia is a Registered Clinical Psychologist in Malaysia and Iran, and an International Affiliate Member of the American Psychological Association (APA).
Dr Sonia's has a biopsychosocial approach to case formulations. She considers the client's history, current life experiences, problems, strengths and goals. Genuine caring, respect, compassion, acceptance, and encouragement are features of her style.
Dr Sonia is an integrative therapist. She draws on a range of evidence-based interventions to ensure a client-specific approach to therapy. She integrates and utilises psychological approaches such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy (REBT), Reality Therapy (RT), Person-Centred Therapy (PCT), and Psychotherapeutic approaches that help identify unconscious patterns which may be impacting on current life experiences.
Dr Sonia has experience working with a range of psychological concerns, including anxiety, depression, emotion regulation, stress and coping, self-esteem concerns, adjustment difficulties, grief and loss, trauma, relationship difficulties, family conflicts, parent-child conflicts, life/social/interpersonal skills issues, etc.
Dr Sonia believes that with appropriate support, we have inherent potential to move beyond suffering, towards a life of meaning and purpose. Using the Positive Psychology approach and principles, Dr Sonia supports every individual to enhance their well-being and reach their goals.
